Anthropic is quickly proving that you don't have to be the loudest player in AI to win big. The maker of the Claude chatbot is reportedly on track to turn a profit years before OpenAI, showing that its leaner, business-first strategy might be paying off.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic expects to break even by 2028, driven by strong demand from companies using Claude for coding, automation, and other enterprise tools. The Amazon AMZN- and Google GOOG-backed startup has lifted its growth outlook by as much as 28% and now projects $70 billion in revenue by 2028 a huge jump from about $5 billion this year.

OpenAI, on the other hand, is burning cash fast. The ChatGPT maker could rack up $74 billion in losses by 2028 as it spends heavily on computing power and infrastructure, with profitability not expected until 2030.

Anthropic's developer business is also booming its API revenue in 2025 is expected to double OpenAI's, signaling that Claude might quietly be becoming the AI of choice for businesses that care as much about profits as performance.
