Britain's government remains committed to its "robust fiscal rules", Prime Minister Keir Starmer's spokesperson said on Tuesday, declining to comment directly on markets selling off British bonds and a fall in sterling.

"Our iron-clad commitment to our robust fiscal rules remains," the spokesperson told reporters, adding that the government, since taking power, had made the necessary decisions to "stabilise the public finances".
