Baltic Dry Index Up to Over 2-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry commodities, advanced for the second session on Thursday, rising 53 points to its highest since April 7 at 1,353 points, driven by gains across all segments.
The capesize index, which transports 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, also increased for the second day, adding 114 points to its highest since April 8 at 1,846 points; and the panamax index, which usually tracks vessels carrying 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grains, rose for the seventh straight session, up 39 points to its highest since April 4 at 1,372 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose 12 points to a three-week high of 976 points.
