I think it is personally foolish to assert a ticker symbol after a few days especially when there is a dispute in the community. But I digress, This analysis is to track Coinbase BCH.

Despite being a leader in the digital currency space, the exchange has left investors in the lurch for days as their portfolios bleed. While listing the second chain is undoubtedly risky, failing to reactivate trading entirely has cost investors far more than BSV going to zero.

We reached out to Coinbase for information on the Bitcoin Cash timeline but did not immediately receive a reply.

According to the announcement, trading of Bitcoin Cash SV is not expected to resume any time soon, or maybe at all. <- This is not acceptable from a crypto exchange ‘leader’. Given the fact that other leading exchanges have already given their respective BCHSV to users.

Most likely a lot of users pulled money from Coinbase into wallets. Now, since they see that Coinbase is being political about the fork and is not offering support for BCHSV they moved to other exchanges like Binance and Poloniex. A large majority of the crypto community despise politics and Coinbase’s actions have a deep stench of bias. We will see if Coinbase will remain a popular exchange.

Coinbase and other exchanges who prematurely labeled BCHABC as BCH better pray that the majority of miners do not point their hash power towards SV. These exchanges will face extreme losses which could end up putting them out of business.

The responsible action would have been to assign new tickers to the chains such as BCHSV & BCHABC.

According to the filing, Coinbase listed the newly forked BCH without notice, after it had previously tipped insiders and employees. While regular customers rushed to place their orders, trading of BCH was halted. The existing open orders belonging to regular customers were only settled after the halt was lifted and the BCH price had already spiked. This allegedly caused substantial losses to the plaintiffs, who are now seeking for restitution from Coinbase.

FBI to Investigate Coinbase’s Misconduct?

The amended class action follows only a month after the U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria dismissed Jeffrey Berk’s lawsuit against Coinbase for violating insider trading policies. Plaintiffs were then given a 21-day period to file an amended complaint and Coinbase will now have to respond to the allegations by December 20, while the initial hearing for the case has been set for January 31, 2019. A source told blokt that FBI may be involved in investigating Financial Crimes being committed by Coinbase, but this claim is yet to be confirmed.
